Did you know that up until 1968, British theatre was at the mercy of censorship? All plays intended for public performance had to be approved and licensed by the Lord Chamberlain’s Office, which was a legal requirement under the Licensing Act of 1737 and the Theatres Act of 1843. Essentially, this was to prevent anything indecent, offensive or blasphemous taking place in theatres; censorship was particularly strict on homosexuality.
Thankfully our creative team is free to make Proud! A musical review, a creative and safe space for all. Whether you’re a member of the LGBTQ+ community or an ally – everyone is welcome.

We’re delighted to welcome Rowan Alfred as our Director / Musical Director and Toni Ogilvie as Choreographer.
Rowan is a writer, director and performer. Specialising in music theatre, he has spent the last fifteen years producing work for the stage as a director, musical director, playwright and lyricist. Alongside his theatrical output, Rowan works as a composer, arranger and orchestrator as well as being a passionate educator. Previous credits include: Joe Waits (for Steve Bingham), The Rime of the Ancient Mariner (For String Quartet and Narrator), The Owl and the Pussycat (A Play in Three Acts), and My Father’s Child (A Musical in One Act). Toni has been dancing since a young age. She qualified as a tap dance teacher at 16 and taught in both Ely and Cambridge. Musical theatre has always been her passion and as, well as performing in many shows in Cambridgeshire, she has also taught musical theatre at a local dance school and choreographed for several Cambridgeshire groups. With a love of tap, ‘Crazy For You’ (Festival Players) and ’42nd Street’ (Saffron Walden Musical Theatre Company) have been particular highlights.
