We’re delighted to be working with theatre professionals to deliver a series of Masterclass sessions covering various performance disciplines.
It’s been a while since we were in a rehearsal room (let alone a theatre!) so these opportunities to sing, dance and act alongside others face-to-face are an exciting prospect.

Here are some details about the sessions that will be running and the professionals leading them:
Vocal Masterclass with Jennifer Edmonds (All singing levels welcome) £30 for the session, £25 for Society members
This one day session will take place on Sunday 1st August from 10:00-17:00. The morning session will be spent dusting off our vocal folds. You’ll learn a contemporary musical theatre piece as a group, with lots of opportunities for solos and close harmony work. In the afternoon, everyone will have a chance to sing a song of their choice (as long as it’s from a musical, we don’t mind which) with feedback and vocal technique advice, with plenty of opportunity for Q&A’s.
Jennifer moved to Cambridge to complete a music degree in 1994. After working around the UK as a Musical Director, more recent years have seen Jennifer working in music education, in various roles at colleges in Cambridge.

Jennifer is currently Resident Musical Director and Head of BTEC at Bodywork Company, Cambridge.
Acting Masterclass with Mark Turnbull (All acting levels welcome) £30 for the session, £25 for Society members
A one day session taking place on Sunday 8th August from 10:00-17:00. The morning session will focus on acting techniques, along with improvisation and character work. The afternoon session will be looking at audition pieces and how to prepare for an audition. We’ll send out any pieces you’ll need to look at in advance nearer the time.
Mark has been a professional actor since 1982 after training at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art, having been born in Zimbabwe and immigrating to the UK in 1977. After participating as a singer in the 10th and 25th Anniversary performances of Les Miserable he returned to the profession as an actor in 2011 playing character roles in musicals such as The Baker’s Wife, Jekyll and Hyde, Margeurite, How to Succeed in Business, Goodbye Girl, Billy, The Man who had all the Luck , in pantomime with Cannon and Ball in 2016 at the Lyceum in Crewe, as an actor/musician in the major new musical by Tom Clarke (of the Enemy) and BAFTA winner Geoff Thompson of We Live and Die in these Towns at the Belgrade Theatre in Coventry in 2018 and most recently as Joseph Buquet in Phantom of the Opera in Concert. He is fortunate to have worked with and still be working with many established and upcoming directors on new and revival productions.
Musical Theatre Dance Masterclass with Emma Olley (Beginners and Intermediate) £12 for each session, £10 for Society members
Taking place on Saturday 14th August, the two sessions will cover a variety of musical theatre dance styles, including tap and jazz. The beginners session will run from 10:00-12:00 and the intermediate session will run 13:00-15:00.
Emma currently teaches full-time students at Cambridge School of Visual and Performing Arts, and also has a history of Musical Theatre choreography. Notable theatre productions include Follies (2012) & Sister Act (2015) at The Cambridge Arts Theatre, Spamalot (2016) at the ADC Theatre, and a youth production of Les Miserables at the Leys Great Hall (2017). Upcoming productions include Grease at The ADC Theatre.
Acting Through Song Masterclass with Chris Cuming (All acting and singing levels welcome) £30 for the session, £25 for Society members
The final session will take place on Sunday 22nd August from 10:00-17:00. The morning will focus on dance where you’ll learn a musical theatre dance routine. In the afternoon you’ll get to perform your chosen song in front of the other participants (any musical theatre style). You’ll have an opportunity to prepare your song with our guest Music Director, who’ll be on hand to give vocal technique advice.
Chris trained at Lorraine’s School of Dance from the age of four in his hometown of Watford, before going to The Royal Central School of Speech & Drama where he studied BA Theatre Practice. Chris then spent two years as a lecturer at Royal Central, leading a few second year projects as well as teaching on the BA Musical Theatre course. After that Chris’s Choreographic career took off with his first project as Movement Director on ‘5 Guys Chillin’ which opened at The Kings Head before running at Festivals and
going Off Broadway. After that Chris’ work has spanned across plays, musicals, youth and community theatre. Chris is currently the Artistic Director of Taylorian Productions, a Theatre company based on the Isle of Man.
